I also left the copper winds around the eyes bare. Unlike the other one I have listed, it left this one looking discolored in places from the steel being tempered. It is clean, it's just brown colored from the tempered steel. Unfortunately, when I started cleaning this rod, it did take it all the way back to bare metal. Believe me, if I wanted these to look brand new, I have the bead and sand blasters to do it and it would have been so much easier and faster. I like the fact that they have been used and when you look at the 2 I have listed, you will see what I mean. I don't like to take all the character out of them. When I restore antiques, I don't restore them to look brand new. The time it takes to painstakenly restore these rods is amazing. more against the law to pay someone to work for less than minimum wage. If you buy these at what I have them listed for, you should be arrested. If you collect these but have never cleaned one of them up, you need too.

I have a new respect for those who take the time to restore them. This was the first time I ever done fishing rods and reels. This one and the other one I have listed I bought them with the same reel on them. They were so dirty I couldn't tell what kind of reels were on them. They really are a rare breed to find in any condition. I had seen a couple of these steel rods but never had the chance to buy them. They were wrapped together with the old line you see on the pole. I was at an auction one night and this man came in carrying the 2 poles I have listed.
